While I was at BlogWorld Expo 2009, I met with a variety of the companies in the expo hall that had some really cool products and services. Some aimed at helping bloggers increase their traffic, others to maximize their efficiency, and a variety of them were geared towards helping them monetize their traffic.
One of the first companies I started talking to was Blog Catalog. Let’s take a look at what Blog Catalog is and how they might be able to help you expand your reach and increase your blog’s traffic.
Have you used Blog Catalog? What’s been your experience with it? Has it helped you in any way? Share your stories below!

Blog Catalog is one of the top four blog directories that every blogger should use. The others are Technorati, MyBlogLog and PostRank. Did you know there are 500+ blog directories? I am currently researching which other directories are most useful starting with those mentioned by Keller Hawthorne in her reviews of Blog Directory at FreshEVenture.
I’ll be publishing my findings in my blog as soon as I get more data.

Thanks for sharing Gail! I haven’t used MyBlogLog or PostRank, but I will definitely check them out and let you know that I think. I look forward to checking out your research as well
I use blog catalog since 2007 and its great. They are constantly adding features and making it one of my best blogging tools. I find it more useful than technorati for its community features. I blog about Art and Graffiti and its a great combination to have wordpress and blogcatalog.

Once you hit those top four don’t forget to check out the reviews that Keller has of other directories. I added one of them and immediately saw activity from that site. Part of my research is to add multiple blogs to all of these directories and eventually measure how much traffic they send to each blog.
With 500+ blog directories and communities all over the place we have to find a way to prioritize which are the most essential and then add others as time allows.
